Curriculum

NewTyme School uses the Utah State Core Curriculum Guides and its components of the Arts, Information Technology, Science, Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Responsible Healthy Lifestyles as a basis for the curriculum that is taught.

The curriculum is decided and implemented by input from the administrator, the teaching staff and parents as needed.

Each level teaching staff uses the necessary guides and standards needed to implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum to meet the needs of the students and the goal of graduation.

Elementary

Teachers implement the state core curriculum and utilize NewTyme School’s individualized tracking program to monitor student’s individual progress.
  • Language Arts: A combination of phonics and sight words programs utilizing good literature.
  • Mathematics: A mathematics program utilizing manipulatives, and higher level thought processing skills
  • Science and Social Studies: sample units: nutrition, senses, insects, spiders, traditions & customs, solar system, geography, maps, weather & seasons, ocean life, community, plants & trees, environment, rocks & soil, animals, and dinosaurs.
  • The Arts: art, singing, rhythm, music program, creative and group dance, creative dramatics.
  • Information Technology: Basic operations and concepts, social, ethical issues, technology productivity tools, technology communications tools, technology research tools, technology problem solving and decision making tools.
  • Responsible Healthy Lifestyles: health and physical education.

High School

Core Classes
  • Language Arts (7th-8th), English (9th-12th)
  • Mathematics: Pre-algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Advanced Math, Calculus
  • Science: Integrated, Biology, Chemistry, Physics
  • Social Studies: Utah History, Geography, United States History, World History,
  • Physical Education: PE(7-9), Lifetime Fitness (10)
  • Fine Arts: Music Appreciation, Vocal Training, US History (films)
  • Technology: Intro to Computer Basics, Programming
  • Vocation: Work Release (in conjunction with an off-site elective)
Elective Offerings
  • Social Studies Electives: Government, American Problems, Economics, Psychology, AP Government, AP US History, US History (films)
  • English Electives: Creative Writing, Journalism, AP English
  • Mathematics Electives: AP Calculus
  • Science Electives - AP Environmental Studies
In addition, core and elective courses are offered off-site through Jordan Technical Center, BYU Independent Study, Salt Lake Community College, and Electronic High School.
